Erie County, home to about 281,000 people, is the only part of Pennsylvania that reaches any of the great lakes, with about forty miles of Lake Erie shoreline stretched between New York and Ohio. The largest city in this part of the state is Erie, located on Presque Isle Bay about two hours north of Pittsburgh, two hours east of Cleveland and two hours west of Buffalo. Home to 104,000 residents with a metropolitan population of 195,000, Erie is the fourth-largest city in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown.
