Subway
RT-9 and RT-10 are a pair of H-1 work cars, shown resting at the Davisville Yard along with H-1 work cars RT-38 and RT-39 on Nov. 24, 2010. Both sets of cars were built between 1964 and 1965 and were used in revenue service until the late 1990s, when they were withdrawn and converted into garbage trains. When the TTC discontinued garbage train service, these four cars became general utility trains. RT-39 was scrapped in September 2011, but the other three are still in the TTC work fleet as of August 2012. |

This H-4 train was spotted leaving Islington Station on January 24, 2011. The H-4 subway cars were built by Hawker-Siddeley and introduced in 1974, and were the last non-air-conditioned subway cars ordered by the TTC, along with the last equipped with padded orange bench seats. |

An H-4 train is shown leaving St. George Station on January 24, 2011. The TTC kept the last of these trains in service until January 27, 2012, when there were enough of the new Toronto Rocket trains to allow the H-4 trains to be retired after 37 years of revenue service. |

5745 was an H-5 series subway car, spotted resting at the Davisville Yard on Nov. 24, 2010. The H-5 cars were built by Hawker-Siddeley of Thunder Bay and were introduced in 1976, making them the oldest subway cars in use by the TTC until the last train was taken out of service on June 14, 2013. |
|
5803 was another H-5 series car, shown parked with 5364 at the Davisville Yard on Dec. 30, 2004. |
|
An H-5 train is shown leaving Museum Station on September 6, 2009. The Yonge-University-Spadina and Sheppard lines usually use T-1 and Toronto Rocket subway cars, while the Bloor-Danforth line uses H-6 and T-1 cars. |
|
An H-6 subway train was spotted leaving Kipling Station on January 24, 2011. These subway cars were built by the UTDC and entered TTC service in 1987. |

5521 is the lead car of a Toronto Rocket subway train, seen boarding passengers at Rosedale Station on July 29, 2012. These trains, which were designated at T35A08 trains prior to the “Rocket” name being adopted, consist of fixed six-car train sets and feature open gangways between the cars, allowing for the free movement of passengers from one end of the train to the other. |
|
5526 is part of the same train as 5521, and is shown leaving Rosedale Station on July 29, 2012. Under the Toronto Rocket numbering scheme, the train sets are numbered from xxx1 to xxx6, and the next train starts with the fleet number ending in “1”. Therefore, this train is numbered 5521-5522-5523-5524-5525-5526, and numbers 5520, 5527, 5528, 5529 and 5530 are skipped. |
|
5581 is shown approaching Rosedale Station on July 29, 2012. Because the TTC ordered 70 subway trains of six cars each, using the new numbering scheme, the cars will be numbered between 5381 and 6076, meaning that the TTC will reuse numbers from the H-1, H-2, H-4, H-5 and H-6 subway cars, along with New Flyer D901 buses. |

A Toronto Rocket train is seen approaching Rosedale Station on July 29, 2012. These trains were ordered to replace the H-4, H-5 and H-6 trains, some of which are being shipped to Nigeria to be used in the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project. Thirty-nine trains had been delivered for use on the Yonge-University-Spadina line by August 2013, with the full delivery of all seventy train sets expected in mid-2014. |
