San Diego is the southernmost major city in California, the second-largest city and also the oldest municipality in the state, having been established as a Mexican pueblo in 1835.  The Metropolitan Transit System oversees all transit operations in San Diego, including the Breeze in the north, the Coaster commuter train, San Diego Transit, Chula Vista Transit, National City Transit, and the San Diego Trolley, serving a population of three million in an area larger than greater New York City.  The Trolley operates three lines:  the Blue Line, opened in 1981; the Orange Line, opened in 1986 and extended northeast through 1995, and the Green Line, opened in 2005.  In addition, the MTS operates 87 local, rural, regional and express bus routes throughout the county.  These routes operate as far as San Ysidro and Otay Mesa in the south, Jacumba in the southeast, Oak Grove in the northeast, and Ocotillo Wells and Agua Caliente in the east.  The bus fleet consists primary of New Flyer C40, C40LF and D60LF, and NABI 60-BRT buses, along with various other models inherited from its subsidiaries.
